WE WANT TO TEACH 3RD GRADERS ABOUT CONSERVATION!

by Ocean Connectors

James Ruvalcaba

Greetings from James Ruvalcaba!

I serve on the Advisory Board of Ocean Connectors and I ask for tour help in raising funds to expand our conservation program for kids in underserved communities in Nayarit, Mexico. Ocean Connectors has found a successful way to engage students with nature and conservation. We have been working with 4th, 5th and 6th graders and we'd like to expand this program to 3rd graders. To do so, we need your help.

We aspire to teach these students about pollinators and the damage that humans are doing with herbicides and pesticides. We will show them how to compost and how to create a pollinators garden. I ask for your assistance to help conserve our environment and marine wildlife.

Reaching $30,000 we will be able to provide 450 students with our full 3rd grade program. This includes class presentations, field trips and prizes.
Reaching $20,000 we will be able to provide 450 students in 3rd grade with class presentations and educational material,
Reaching $10,000 we will be able to take the 100% of the students in our current programs to Field trips and improve our programs with more citizen science material.
Reaching $5,000 will help us support the continuation of our existing programs

Our mission is educate, inspire and connect youth with conservation in underserved communities along the Nayarit Coast in Mexico. We work with 4th, 5th and 6th grade students. Our goal this year is to expand to 3rd grade. Help us reach our goal!

Ocean Connectors programs consist of free in-class presentations and field trips where students learn about migratory marine life and their challenges to survive. Our 4th grade program focuses on Sea Turtles and Plastic Pollution. Our 5th grade program focuses on Whales, Noise Pollution in the Ocean, and Sustainable Fishing practices. Our 6th grade program focuses on Migratory Birds and Habitat Loss.

We work with 92 groups, 26 schools in 16 different towns along the coast of Bahia de Banderas and Compostela municipalities in Nayarit, Mexico. This year we reached almost 2,000 students. Each student received our class presentations and approximately 60% attended coastal field trips with us.
